Hello. I apologize for being a way for so long. I thank you for your loyal support. I've joined an organization that does celebrity gifting to Hollywood. "The IndiExhbit"

I created this custom artwork of a friends with a great organization. Her company is called "Enchanted Makeovers" which helps improve living spaces for the less fortunate. Her newest cause is for "Alternative for Girls", a shelter to help enhance the lives of young women. If anyone who would love to help, help is always needed by monetary, donations of goods or time. The art is painted with multiple layers of sparkling glitter in a stained glass style.

Calling all artists and crafters. Want your handcrafted item in the hands of celebrities for the big Hollywood award show gift lounge. A friend is part of an organization that gives artwork to celebrities gift bags for the Grammy, MTV Awards, Daytime Awards, Sundance Film Festival, etc..

This company is non-profit, has been in the business for several years, has a good track record, and represents artists from around the world. She know she business inside and out. You can purchase small packages $50 to only have our business card included into these gift bags, to a spot on the display table for $$$. (caution regarding others that are profit based). The fee may seem high, but this fee is broken down so several artists can participate, this is to helps artists be part of an expensive spot on a gift lounge, costing up to $5000 or more.

Celebrities visits these gift lounges to receive specialty gift bags called "SWAGS". Some will even take photos with items displayed. Visit their site, read what is available, and make your decision. It's a great opportunity and you'll gain exposure. I was invited to join this group with m glitter art, it's very exciting. A great tip to improve your Facebook photo wall. My friend said I could use her information on my blog to help others. She stated that most of the photo ribbons she has seen on other people's pages include a series of five miscellaneous unrelated photos. These photos are usually poorly cropped, too dark, and small that people looking at the page can't identify what the photo is.

She said this is a prime location, Photo Ribbon is first thing a visitors sees. Location and data is everything. She has figured out a way to manipulate that photo ribbon, she uses it to promote her business and bring visitors to her website, blog, Twitter profile, and even to product pages--without being obnoxious.

At the top of her fan page, you can check it out by clicking on the "Like" button. Then, click on each of the five photos and see what happens. Publicity Hound. What does your Photo Ribbon look like? Are you using it to your full advantage?

Knowing how to use the photo ribbon to help your visitors and to promote themselves --and understanding what you can do with all the other new Facebook features--will give you incredible power that you never knew you had.

Sign up for her class, it will help you on Facebook. The photo ribbon does make your Facebook personal profile look great. I redid it my personal page, what a big difference. You’ll need to make new jpgs or png of icons as your shop’s name, Twitter, social sites and add large words describing what each photo is. Google: Free social websites logos. You can get free down loadable PDF from the Internet, or you can make your own. You must have knowledge of photo editing software. It does take some time to do it correctly, but it does work. On Facebook- Links to promote your shop

My friend Mr. Dewayne Williams, graciously offered these links to help other crafters and artists on Facebook. He has allowed me to share them with you. He states these links have helped him get sales on his etsy shop. When used, these several links will increase your Facebook pages and your shops presence and have more visibility on the internet.

Most of these groups are very popularly visited sites. You can post a link to your site and leave a comment about it at the top of the pages,. You can feature one of your art pieces by placing a link to that piece and leave a comment about it. You can post or feature other peoples items or shop and there is an automatic link to your shop included. (Here is a good place to post those friends shop or items that have helped you along the way). You will gain wonderful friends to "Like" you by viewing and commenting on other peoples posts and comments. It is really a great community to belong to.

His recommendation is that you use the these links at least once a week to post either an item in your shop or your shop itself. In addition be courteous to those that you will find, help you and your sales and post/feature their shop once in awhile. If you use all of these links, you can do it in 15 minutes or less. Can you afford 15 minutes a week to grow your business? If so you will reap the benefits without a doubt in his mind.

Here is an additional bonus: The following link is to a page that its primary purpose is to promote every Tuesday those shops with zero or close to zero sales. 4) Why did you start your business and when: Actually I still consider Candle Sweetie my hobby not so much a business, before I became disabled my career was in franchise development for a major franchise chains. In 2004, one of my then franchisee client gifted me a beautiful blueberry pie. As a "candle connoinsseur” I was in AWE of the creation I had never seen anything like it before! I adored it so much; until I held onto the pie candle for two years, preserving it in a lovely decorative pie dish before ever burning it! Soon after, I wanted another one! A friend gifted me that blueberry pie had since passed away. I searched and searched the internet looking to purchase more. The holidays were approaching and I desperately wanted a candle pie to enhance the dining room table!

Researching the internet, I located and called a woman listed in CA. She was an elderly woman, and she that due to her age and all she had recently decided to no longer make candles. I told her how very much I adored my candle pie, that I had received as a gift and desperately wanted another. She agreed to make me a blueberry pie. I was elated! Just as we were completing the call she said to me: “you know...we need more young people to get involved with making specialty candles". Candle makers are dying off and specialty candles will soon be a thing of the past she said. She proceeded on to tell me how she could sense something about me. Your voice she said...it’s something about your voice she said... I BELIEVE you would be a great candidate to make special candles" Me, I said? She said Yes you…I was already dabbing in making jar candles and was somewhat familiar with only paraffin wax. So, I thanked her and paid her for the pie candle.

She insisted that she would include with my order an empty wax pie shell, wax fruit and some gel wax. I received a box from Ms Anita. The blueberry pie she made me seemed more beautiful than the one I had been gifted. She did indeed include the supplies mentioned along with a note requesting that I call her following the holidays and she would coach me through how to make a simple fruit pie using gel wax, this was going to take place mind you over the phone if I were interested!  I called Ms Anita back and we began a dialogue. I followed her instructions. She instructed me to take pictures and email them to her. Well the critiquing begain! She boldly expressed what I did and didn't do. You must turn the peaches this way, turn the fruit that way now…take it apart she told me! Re-melt the gel wax and start over again! And I did! Carefully; I placed the fruit pieces according to her teaching critiques. After which I emailed those pictures, later that evening we spoke again. Much better she said! This time your grade is a B, borderline B+! That inspiration from Ms Anita; a total stranger basically encouraged the anointing that was already there..I just wasn’t aware that I had artistic, or crafty abilities residing within me. That act of kindness is what truly gave birth to my now Candle Sweetie!

I decided to learn as much as I could on my own about the subject of candling: The different types of wicks, waxes, and fragrances. I’ve experienced my share of blunders trial and errors along the way I literally begin dreaming of how to make candle desserts. I started making and gifting family and friends. Soon friends and friends of friends began asking for my candle creations.

I am eternally grateful and thankful to God, who provides me the vision along with the serious passion I have for Candle Sweetie Dessert Style Candles!

As of this year I’ve introduced a new line "Sweet Looking Wickless Candles" Safe, sweet fake food candles. The typical reaction we get from customers is...they smell and look too good to burn I’ll never burn it! LOL...thus Sweet Looking was incorporated. Additionally I have select amount of customers who doll up their home with my “fake food” candle treats.

Sorry, I haven't posted in awhile. Mom had a severe stroke again. I've been at the hospital everyday. Her end of life directive is no artificial means, she currently on Hospice. Once things settle down after this emotional roller coaster, I''ll post more beautiful creations and helpful sites for all to enjoy.

Caregiving journal 8/21/10

I'm sorry if my journaling about my mom bores some of my visitors. When I write, it's part of me, it helps me and to gives me peace of mind. Thank you for all who have given there support during this difficult time. I try to stay positive, but I have to relearn how to relax and not be a full time caregiver. I've been on auto pilot for so long that I don't know how to relax. Just to watching TV or working on my art has been difficult, I feel as if I need to check on her constanly and to see if she needs assistance or needs anything. My kids have to remind me she no longer in the house. When I visit her at the nursing home, she keeps saying, I abandoned her and threw her away. It breaks my heart. It's hard, because she doesn't understand or can't remember what I told her on the last visits.

Finding new unique crafts, jewelry, art has helps me to relax. I'm an artists with a passion for beautiful creations and handmade. Thanks for visiting.

Hello everyone. Thank you for coming back. It's nice to have a loyal following. The days have been difficult dealing with placing my mother in a home. I know it is the best place for her due to her condition, but it's hard dealing with guilt. I visit her 2-3x a week. I've read, if a nursing home patient receives visitors often, they tend to do better than those that don't. She cries wanting to go back home, when I visit. I try to be strong, and tell her that it's too dangerous for her to return home due to her choking. Her response is, "What choking, I never choke on my food, I'm healthy and well." She doesn't remember most incidents due to her Alzheimer's disease. She believes she can do anything as capable person could do, yet she get frustrated when she can't even remember how to basic needs as brushing her teeth, how to swallow, or even getting words out correctly to make a sentence. Thank you to everyone's love and support during this difficult time in my life.

Now that mom has gone into a home, I have a little more time on my hands. I'm trying to rebuild my business. If anyone enjoys my sparkling glitter art and what I do, PLEASE mention it to friends and family. It's been said, word of mouth is the best form of compliment, I thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart.

Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't written or posted in a while, but life has been upside down. Caring for my has been very difficult. I've been search for months for a nursing home. Most places had no open bed, rehab only or just terrible. I found a great nursing home with residents with her same nationality and ethnic foods and activities she'd enjoy. I place an application, but was told there were no beds available and they had a waiting list a mile long. I believed in my heart this was the right place for her. (I began praying continuously, believing the nursing home had an open bed for her.)

Her swallowing problems worsen. I took her to her physician,who ordered a swallowing test. I went back to the nursing home with the doctor's evaluation. They went into over drive placing high on the waiting list due to urgency, but stated there still wasn't any beds available. Not expecting anything soon, I continued caring for her the best I could. Last week the nursing home called me back saying they had an open bed, bring her right in. I was shocked with disbelief on how soon she got in. God does answer prayer.

It feels really strange. I don't know how to deal time. I'm constantly checking the clock, going to her room, checking to see if she needs anything or help to the bathroom. I've been doing this so long I've lost myself and have been running on auto pilot. My husband says it will be awhile before I adjust to having a normal, not being a full time caregiver and under constant pressure of tending to her needs. Even when I'm sitting in front of the TV relaxing, reading a book or working on my glitter art feels strange as if I've abandon her or I'm being really bad person. I know it'll take a while to get used not having to care for her.

I still have to tend to her other matters as banking, medical issues, nursing home papers, etc... at least I don't have to tend to her physically. She's well cared for in the nursing home, which give me piece of mind.

LIfe has been getting more difficult caring for my mother. I'm exhausted all the time by driving her to lab test, doctor's visits, plus looking into placing her in a nursing home. It's amazing how different homes can very, from very nice with "NO" open beds to terrible and depressing. I visited over 15 homes to find a place for mom. Most the beds were not available, only rehab, to disgusting. My mom is having difficulty swallowing and is loosing weight. This is one of the late stages of Alzheimer's disease. This is very dangerous because the elderly can choke on food causing death.

Sometimes I look at my sales and visitors, looks like my business took a nose dive. That's ok, it was meant to be on hiatus, since I needed the time to care for my sick mom.

I know I can hit he floor running, bring my business back to what it was or better. I have tone of new ideas waiting to be drawn and painted with glitter. What do you think of exotic birds, dogs, baby announcements and sympathy designs, and teacher's gifts? Please refer my site to other who may want to see glitter used in a totally different way. My mom's health is slowly degrading. I feel like I'm putting in 48 hours in a day. There's so much to tend to. Having increased number of doctor's visits, I'm continuously doing tons of laundry daily, replacing her bedding daily, more bathroom accidents and plus dealing with things she doesn't understand. She's constantly confused and says the strangest things:

1) "My friend never talks or eats, what's wrong with her?"- mirrored doors

2) "How did you got away from kidnappers, since you've been missing for days"- I've been in the living room working on the computer for an hour.

3) "Why haven't your kids returned home from school, it's dark outside"- the kids are in bed and asleep.

4) "I'm starving, I hadn't eaten in days".- it's been only an hour or two since she last had a snack.

5) "I've never had that before", she wonder what strange foods I've given her for lunch, - peanut butter and jelly or spaghetti and sauce, or chicken and rice.

I try to keep a positive outlook on things, It's been difficult becoming the parent to a 90 lbs child. Her mobility and comprehension have decreased almost daily. She has a innocent of a child once again, she'll get her head stuck trying to remove her shirt, loose her sock while removing her pants, wear her sweater inside out and upside down, and her favorite words are "I do it myself". I'm just grateful for this opportunity to care for her during her final stages of Alzheimer's.

What I've learned from this experience is that I'm stronger than I've ever thought, caring to the best of my ability is part of my DNA, my compassion, tenacity and dedication is never yielding. I know I can say with no regrets is that I made a difference in her life and I'm a better person because of it.

Time caring for mom seems to get more and more difficult. She has some good days, but mostly bad days. I try not let the bad upset me, so I think of each situation in a humorous manner and enjoy it with laughter. At lease she creative.

Hallucination:

1) Mom sees thing that aren't there. She has mirrored doors in her room. She found a new friend in her room, she'll say: " There's lady in my room who doesn't eat or talk. I tried sharing my cookies with her, but she throw it on the floor." She doesn't understand that it's her own reflection, when she gives the reflection a cookie and drops it, she thinks the person has thrown to the ground.

2) My son has a large backpack for Boy Scouts for his hiking trips. One day my mom saw the backpack on the living room floor. "How did we get a car into the living room?"

3) We had elephants in the entry way (a large box we were going to throw out) , snakes in the bedroom (single sock on the floor), strange people coming and going (my kids she doesn't recognize).

Meal time: Meals began to get interesting. She put her bread in her apple sauce and can't understand why it taste funny, she puts in her peas in her tea-"There's weird stuff floating inside my cup". She adds strawberries to her soup. Eats bananas together with her sandwiches. She doesn't like assistance when I try to help. My husband says mom has created her own gourmet meals with a twist.

For one thing life is not dull with caring for an elderly parent. Remember life can always be worst, take things in stride with a smile on your face. Thanks for the support and prayers.

March 2010

I finally had one week off of caring for my elderly mother. My sister offered helped to care for mom for one week. It was so nice to get some free time. My husband give a a great early 20th wedding anniversary, we went to a SPA. It was so nice to soak in the mineral baths, salt baths and get a full body massage. I haven't felt that relaxed in a long time. I didn't realized I needed much pampering and someone take care of me. It was a wonderful experience. I got refreshed, rejuvenated, and refueled. I can become a better caregiver and help my mom live her life for the better.

Now, my mom's back home, wish my vacation didn't have to end. At least I know I can have some free to time for myself and not feel guilty about it. I've always heard that on planes they tell you, "You must use the oxygen mask for yourself, before it is administer to others. Your no good to anyone, if you don't care for your self first". I have to stop caring for other for a short while, so that I can care for my self. What a concept. Thank to all who continue to send support.

February 2010

Thank you to all who send prayer and sent support. My prayers were answered, I got extra help this week. My sister had been out of the picture most of this caregiving journey, but lately she wanted to help with mom. I was shocked and surprised. It's not much- only one week every month or so, but I'm not complaining. It's better than nothing.

I can get a break to refuel and rest, till mom comes back home. In the beginning I didn't know how to relax, I constantly watched the clock waiting for bathroom duty or when I had to get her ready for bed, check the laundry baskets for laundering, etc.. It's a strange feeling not having my own time for so long, then finally getting some. Yeah, now I can concentrate more on business, posting, making friends and spreading some joy.

I ordered a new pretty purple sweater vest for my mom. I actually had time to shop, not just window shop.

Caregiver's journal, 3/16/10

The days have been extremely difficult. I try to keep a smile on my face and keep a positive disposition, but some days I just want to cry.

My mom's Alzheimer's disease is getting worse, she's slowly becoming a stranger. She gets lost in our house, see stranger's in her room (mirrored doors), has accidents more often than not, and there are days when she doesn't know who I am.

Normally I'm a optimist who sees the good in things in the worst situations. Therefore, what I'm getting out of this heart wrenching experience is a new way to look at life, how to fragile life is and how we need to cherish very minute. I concentrate on the good instead of the bad situation I've been given.

I heard things happen for a reason to improve our lives.

By praying daily - I've gotten closer to God

I needed the exercise to decreased my stress - I lost weight, now I can fit into my skinny jeans.

Mopping and cleaning the bathroom accidents daily or change bedding - I've becoming a better housekeeper.

Doing tons of laundry of soiled clothes - improved my laundry skills.

When the chips are down, depression set in - I know I've can find strength and courage deep in my soul to get me through the next day.

I've learned to go with the flow of hallucinations, aggressions, total memory loss to having a new name daily. It's hard, but my mother doesn't know why she says what she says, or she doesn't make sense. She become to small child caught in adult's body. So, I try to make light of things and make her happy with the time she has left.

Hello. Thank you for prayers and kind words of encouragement. Somedays I feel I can't go on, then someone or something someone said or did: picks me up, dust me off, lends a hand or gently pushes me in the right direction, send encouraging words and support.

I try not to think of the hardship or my elderly mother's decline. I think about the time we have together, and know life has given me an opportunity for laughter instead of heartaches.

Mom will say,

1)"My fingers are icky sticky", (she finished eating with her fingers, or rest her hand in her dessert bowl of ice cream), It's okay-let's wash your hands.

2) "I went to the bathroom all by myself", (she stuffed while half a roll of toilet paper in her pants, and a huge puddle on the floor), the floor needed mopping.

3) "I dress myself, I did it right?", (her clothes upside down or inside out), Let's change your clothes, you look silly.

4) "I don't understand why my sleeve is wet", (she like resting her hand in a bowl of soup), Well, it was time to change her shirt anyways.

Remember to turn life's messes into something worth smiling about.

Hello, Thank you to all who have come by and continue to give support and prayers. Life has been rough lately. My 86 yr. old mother has middle stages of Alzheimer's. My mother does have some good days and some really bad days. It's hard at time when she doesn't even remember my name, even if I care for her daily. It's been an experience caring for her.

She's become the child and I've become the parent. Her life is simple, with no care or worries. She looks at life through a child's eyes. Things are fresh and new. She happy to attend "senior day care" 2x a week to see her new friends and teachers (administrators), smiles with ice cream smeared across her face as she eats her dessert, happily eats snacks throughout the day, regrets she soils her clothes with food she ate for lunch, stops to touch flowers, and is proud she went to the bathroom all on her own (it's potty training from the very beginning).

I'm glad I have this time with her, even if it is difficult. It's something that I can never get back once she passes.

I've gotten some extra help with caring for my mom, which has giving me some rest and time for my art.

I apologize for not posting on Etsy or on this blog very often, but my time is very limited. I've created new pieces that is sure to please. Enjoy.

My 86 years mother has been diagnosed with middle stages of Alzheimer's disease. I've been caring for her since her last two strokes. Care giving is very demanding 24/7. Most of my energy is spent caring, bathing dressing, administrating medicine, and tending to her medical needs.

My art business has suffered greatly. I had not painted in months. I've gotten too the point of not wanting to do art, but something continues to pull in that direction. So slowly, when I do get the energy, I've created new pieces and they given me a sense of peace in my world of stress and pressures of caring for an elderly parent.

Friend near and far, internet friends continue to support me as well. Thank you for all who have come to visit my site, read this blog and send words of encouragement.
